The "Kiyo" & "Korey" nicknames
Korekiyo is only known by his nickname "Kiyo" in the English / western localisation. This is because in Japan it is customary to call your classmates by their last names - "Shinguji-kun" is how most characters would refer to him as calling someone by their first name is reserved to those you are very close with such as a parent or family member.
Since the English/western staff gave him the nickname of "Kiyo" in the dub they had to change his dialogue with Hagakure who nicknames everyone in both languages to show his informality / casual nature by having Hagakure call him "Korey". In the original Japanese text Korekiyo states he is "not used to getting nicknames".
Yojijukugo
In the Japanese version of the games, Korekiyo often incorperates a lot of Yojijukugo into his dialogue. Yojijukugo (Japanese: 四字熟語) is a Japanese lexeme consisting of four kanji. English translations of yojijukugo include "four-character compound", "four-character idiom", "four-character idiomatic phrase", and "four-character idiomatic compound". Obviously, in English this would not make sense to the audience so it was not translated over. His dialogue is also written in archaic kanji giving his dialogue a "typing quirk" of sorts which again was not translated over into the English/western localisation.
His Surname
Korekiyo's surname includes the kanji for "[Shinto] shrine" and "[Buddhist] temple", both of which are symbolic of Japanese religious culture and relate to his talent. His given name is written with the kanji for "just" and "purity" which could darkly allude to his design's theme.
Speech flubs
During his Panic Talk Action, his antiquated linguistics begin to slip and he starts talking more like everyone else, using slang and contractions. This is much harder to notice in the English dubbing of the game and is interestingly similar to how Celestia just starts talking like a sukeban ("delinquent girl" in japanese) aggressively rolling her r's.
Kunio Yanagita
Korekiyo shares the same birthday as famous Japanese Anthropologist Kunio Yanagita.
Scrum debates
Korekiyo is only on the player's side of the debate during Case 3, meaning he only ever supports the player in the case where he is the blackened.
Japanese Seiyuu
His voice actor / seiyuu is Kenichi Suzumura who made this comment regarding playing him: "I could finally perform in DanganRonpa! I remember a member of the production telling me “Please voice a character in our series some day” years ago (laughs). Thank you very much for remembering me. As the Super High School Level Anthropologist, Korekiyo Shinguuji-kun is mysterious. The instruction I got from the production was “Emphasize on his cool points, while still making him creepy”. He was wonderfully fun to play."
Fuck air conditioning!
He does not like it when the player gives him Cleansing Air Freshener and gets furious whenever someone uses it because it repels ghosts and paranormal entities due to the holy water mixed in. This seems to explain his dislike for air conditioning as well.
BDSM
Korekiyo is sadomasochistic and has a strong liking of BDSM, explaining why he likes straw rope. His mask resembles a bondage hood or a Gimp mask. He has practiced bondage with a number of women in a village he visited once during his travels who were all "big fans" of his rope skills.
LGBT
It's implied that he can have sexual feelings for a person regardless of gender which would make him part of the LGBT community. His androgynous appearance and effeminate crossdressing tendancies also would put him on the queer spectrum to a agree. Korekiyo states while he's not emotionally attracted to Shuichi, he is physically attracted to him to a degree and wishes to engage in sex with him.
Korekiyo explains his reasoning for the attraction, "In any event, let's revisit the topic of your interest in me. As I said, all aspects of humanity, even the ugliest, are beautiful. You took an interest in me. Spent time with me... What sort of beauty will you show me as I toy with you...? That is what I wish to know." And later he suggestively comments, "Well, the way you quiver with confusion is beautiful, too... Now give yourself to me... Your fear, worry, anger, and love... I will reveal all of your beauty. I will open the door to a world of pleasure you have yet to experience.
Height
Korekiyo is 6’2” (188 cm) tall, making him the second-tallest student in Danganronpa V3, and the fourth-tallest student in the trilogy. His uniform with the zipper in the center has an effect of making the already tall and slender Korekiyo look even taller.
The Incest Issue
Korekiyo claims he has romantic feelings exclusively for his sister and has expressed that they were in a relationship but this is not confirmed and could be a delusion caused by his mental state (most likely is). It's also possible that all of these memories were created by Team Danganronpa and his real relationship with his sister (if she even is real/exists) is very different.
His devotion to his Sister affects most aspects of his life, often rejecting romantic infatuation with others as he has "devoted himself to someone already" - interestingly, this does not seem to stop him from having sex with multiple past partners or stop him from wanting to engage in sex with Shuichi which questions how devoted he truly was.
Rope fetish?
After he experienced being tied up in a village he visited based on a tradition of welcoming guests with ropes, he was unable to forget it and this seems to be the catalyst for his strong like of BDSM and bondage.
Danganronpa creator Kodaka has commented; "We wish he would tone down his creepy excitement whenever he sees any kind of rope, be it a tsuna (shrine rope) or just a wire… he can tell the lenghty and sturdyness of any rope just by looking… that’s impressive, but what kinds of tradition involve tying people?"
Beauty regime
Korekiyo wakes up at 6am every morning and takes upwards of 2 hours to get ready.
Danganronpa creator Kodaka commentary about him reads; "Quite the fashionista for a man. It takes a lot of time in the morning to get his glossy black hair and his impecably pleated special uniform all perfect. Doing it so composedly with no hurry or haste might be a daily cultural tradition. The Nailbrush, the Hand Mirror and the Sewing Kit are among his liked items. We can assume that’s just the proper ettiquette of an intellectual man?"
